Sioux Falls - Nellie Peterson, Sioux Falls, SD, died December 31, 2008, at Sanford Hospice Cottage. She was 92.

Nellie was born October 14, 1916, to Hans and Annie (Thompson) Clausen, in Lily, SD. Raised in Day County, she graduated from high school in Webster, SD. Nellie then went on to graduate from Aberdeen Normal (Northern State College). She taught school in rural Day County.

On March 28, 1943, she was united in marriage to Karl Peterson, in Lily, SD. The couple began farming as Nellie became a homemaker and loving mother. She was a member of the Butler Lutheran Church. In 1977, after farming for decades in Day County, Karl and Nellie retired and moved to Aberdeen where she was active in church groups at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Karl preceded her in death on March 6, 1988. In 1997, she moved to Sioux Falls, SD and resided at the Inn on Westport. Nellie stayed involved in ladies groups.

Nellie enjoyed years of gardening, raising flowers and vegetables. In her free time, she liked sewing, crocheting and tatting. At the center of her life were her grandchildren. Nellie will forever be remembered as being faithful and kind.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Ronald Peterson (Rita), Conroe, TX, Randy Peterson (Brenda), Brookings, SD; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brother, Leonard Clausen (Marilyn), of Oakland, CA. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gary; and four sisters.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday, at Miller West Funeral Chapel, Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 2:00 Sunday afternoon, with the family present from 2:00 to 3:00 Sunday afternoon. Interment will begin at 3:30 pm Monday, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, SD.
