Callsen Services Set Near Lily

Lily— Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Callsen, 84, pioneer Day County resident, who died Thursday at the Arthur Home in Aberdeen, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the old Callsen home place west of Lily. She had been in bed with failing health for the past year. The Community Funeral Home of Clark will be in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Callsen was born July 6, 1868, at Wilmar, Minn. She came to Day County, South Dakota, at the age of 21. She married Hans Callsen at Lily. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Herbert of DeQuincy, La., Raymond of Clark, and Grant of Lily; two daughters, Mrs. Esther V. Jensen of Claremont and Aberdeen, and Mrs. Hazel Crawford of Inyokern, Cal.; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother Hans Patterson of Lake Lillian, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Julia Sundin of Salem, Ore., and Mrs. Francis O’Niel of Woodburn, Ore.

Pioneer Resident of County is Summoned

Mrs. Carrie Callsen, pioneer Day county resident, passed away last Thursday, Oct. 23, at Aberdeen at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 17 days. Death was the result of her advanced years. She had been failing in health for the past two years.

She was born July 6, 1868, at Lake Elizabeth, Minn., and was married to Hans Callsen at Webster on Nov. 29, 1889. They resided in Troy township, Day county, until the death of Mr. Callsen in 1937. She has been a member of the Baptist church since childhood.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Callsen farm home in Troy township with the Rev. Von Busch of Aberdeen officiating, and burial made in the family lot in the private cemetery on the old homestead. Pall bearers were two grandsons, Marion and Conrad Jensen , and four nephews, David, William P., Karl and Peter D. Peterson.

Surviving are three sons: Herbert of DeQuincy, La.; Raymond of Clark; and Grant of Lily; two daughters, Esther Jensen of Claremont and Hazel Crawford of Bell, Calif.; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one brother, Hans Patterson of Lake Lillian, Minn., and two sisters, Frances O’Neill of Woodburn, Ore., and Julia Waite of Salem, Ore.
