MELVIN R. SANDNESS

Melvin R. Sandness, 88, Jamestown, ND, died Wednesday, June 16, .1999, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.

Mr. Sandness was born October 12, 1910, at Litchville, ND, the son of Christian and Olina (Londahl) Sandness. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and grew up in the vicinity, where he worked on area farms. He then worked for J.J. Nelson near Oakes, ND.

He married Edna Nelson on December 30, 1939, at Britton, SD. They lived on a farm north of Oakes where he worked for Milanders and later worked for Lontgbellows for four years. In 1946 they moved to a farm near Forman, ND where they farmed until 1966. They moved into Forman where he worked as a custodian at Sargent Manor Nursing Home for 24 years. His wife died February 16, 1999. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown. He enjoyed planting flowers at Hi-Acres where he received the "Employee of the Year" award.

He is survived by a son, Ron (Joan), Fargo; four daughters: Marlene (Lynne) Wilkie, Bridger, Mont.; Lorraine Sandness, Jamestown; Shirley Webb , Green Bay, Wisc. and Bonnie (Lonnie) Nichols, Minneapolis, Minn.; two brothers, Alvin, Valley City, and Elmer, Jamestown; a sister, Esther Urang, Breckenridge, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister and four brothers.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Norman Anderson officiating.

Arrangements were by Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.
