Elmer was born December 26, 1915 in Litchville, ND, the son of Christian Sandness (b. 1868) and Olena (Lundahl) Sandness (b. 1874). He grew up in the Litchville area and attended Rosebud school.
On November 2, 1939, Elmer married Evelyn Dahl at the farm near Litchville. They farmed and raised cattle in the Litchville area until their retirement in 1982.
Elmer was a member of First Lutheran Church, Litchville. He enjoyed the fall season, raising cattle and pets.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Jamestown; two sons, Warren of Minot, ND and Richard (Elizabeth A.) of Jamestown; two daughters, Eunice Mesec of Littleton, CO and Connie (Dan) Jeske, Jamestown; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildrenHe was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Conrad, Alfred, Sig, Palmer, Melvin and Alvin; and two sisters, Clara Skretting and Esther Urang.
Burial: Litchville Cemetery, Litchville, North Dakota.
